Mimosa

I noticed today the Mimosa trees are blooming. I spent many hours playing under one in our backyard when I was a little girl. I thought it was the coolest thing to watch it at dusk and see the leaves fold up. The pink blossoms are fascinating as well and I love how they remind me of a tropical rain forest. Oh, they too grow wild here, springing up everywhere and very hardy determined trees as long as we let them choose where to sprout. We did once try to transplant one with no success so now we just let them have their way. I don't have much of a green thumb so I'm very blessed that all these beautiful plants volunteer their presence around our place.

  1. I love these trees. They have the most delicate sense about them. We had a beautiful one on the edge of our property out in back and they hard frost a couple of years ago (in MAY!!) damaged it severely and this year we lost her. Sad. There is a smaller one a few feet away that seems healthy. I am waiting to see if she puts off flowers this year.
    Enjoy yours!!!!
    Peace~

  2. I've never seen a mimosa tree before. Very pretty. I didn't know their leaves folded up either.

Thank you for your kind words over at my place last week.

  3. Hi Maria!
Every time I go for a drive with my daugther these days, I say....MIMMMMMOOOOOSSSAAAAAA! And it drives her crazy. This is my favorite "southern" tree. If I didn't move down south I may have never known!!! I love it! I dug one out of my field down by the road and put it in the yard and it seems to be growing. It's tiny tho. It's also funny that you said they fold up and my little one was folded up the other day and I wondered about that! Yeah it's doing what it's suppose to!!!
